Electronic Waste

Electronic waste (ewaste) is now the fastest growing waste stream in the world. The United Nations have called it a tsunami of ewaste.

Ewaste is defined as anything with a plug, electric cord or battery that has reached the end of its life. Everything from toasters, toothbrushes, smartphones and fridges to laptops and televisions.

In 2018 the world produced over 50 million tonnes of e-waste. Of this total amount, 40 million tonnes of e-waste are discarded in landfill, burned or illegally traded and treated in a sub-standard way every year.

At iRecycle we are committed to diverting this extremely hazardous waste from landfill. We work with our recycling partners who are ISO 14001 approved refineries, ensuring the ewaste is recycled to the highest standards.

Between 95% and 98% of the ewaste we collect (by weight) is diverted from landfill and reenters the economy as secondary resources.
